OUR PROJECTS
The poems of the Universe
The Poems of the Universe is a physics poem book written by the PYW, aimed at sparking interest in science early on in children at village schools. Currently being translated into Hindi, it is available in Turkish. The book has been distributed to 100 children in 2 schools of Eskisehir and Ankara. The project was later recognized by Forbes and had 1000 copies distributed in French in 3 rural schools in Toulouse.
Vignettes
Vignettes is a detailed biology book highlighting ground breaking research in pathology, dermatology, oncology, and more. A collaboration of 95 students from 3 countries ( USA, India, Türkiye), it is edited by the researchers of Columbia University's Irving Medical Center. The book is written for high school students interested in pursuing a career in medicine and biology.
Libraries
As an entity representing the UN MGYC and promoting a passion-oriented and egalitarian education, the Power of Youth Writers received funding from the European Union to establish three libraries at 3 high schools. Being designed for the needs of each specific group, the libraries are currently under development at a Cerebral Palsy Technical Anatolian School, a specialized high school for visually impaired in Ankara, and an all-girls school in Mumbai. With an expected audience of 2500 students, our team hopes to provide supplementary materials for youth who are interested in further investigating their subject of choice.
Sustainable Innovations and Education
Our members from Türkiye collaborated with scientists from Lokman Hekim University to create TechAlike, an environmentally friendly research-based innovation for diabetic wounds. The group focuses on developing microneedle patches that are infused with nanoparticles and angiogenesis agents while using biodegradable materials. The patent-pending innovation works to address UN SDGs while showcasing the potential of medical education in innovation to alleviate human life suffering. As the group experiments with new materials and tests the boundaries of bioengineering, you can find information on their environmentally friendly medical innovations at https://www.techalike.org/
Gendered Stories and Donations
In honor of International Women's Day, the PYW has partnered with the University of Arizona's Forbes School's Center for Women's Leadership. The newly designed newsletter entails stories on female entrepeneurs from USA, Cosmopolitan Magazine writers and activists from Turkey, and female scientists from both. The upcoming newsletter will be announced on 8 March in a special interview episode so stay tunned!
To this day, the PYW donated more than 5000 books and school supplies in partnership with 6 municipalities with a special emphasis on disadvantaged girls schools. We are always looking for ways to collaborate and actively search for a partner for our project with the Malala Fund!
Research
With an unbounded dedication to meeting the specific-needs of children and youth, the PYW emphasizes the meticulous analysis of the problems faced by the youth. By establishing a partnership with the Malala Fund, UN Foundation Girl Up Organization, and Cognitive Coven, the PYW conducted extensive research on deficiencies in Turkish and United Arab Emirates Education System, the importance of non-political and conventional participation of youth in social discourse, and the ways to minimize gender-based discrimination in the MENA Region. The research papers are published on the Cognitive Coven website. These analysis not only make up the foundation of PYW's projects but also provide insight to other entrepreneurs and activists on how to enhance the conditions of youth, children, and women.
